Model a UK retirement and financial plan year by year: income, assets, tax, drawdown and risk, entirely on your own machine.

Future Position is a Windows desktop application for modelling a UK retirement and financial plan, income, assets, spending, tax and withdrawals, projected year by year from today through the end of a horizon you choose, with every number traceable back to the income streams and asset withdrawals that produced it.
Everything runs locally. There is no account to create, nothing is sent to a server, and your data lives in a single SQLite file on your own machine.
CORE PLANNING
Unlimited income streams (salary, pensions, annuities, State Pension, rental, interest, dividends) and asset accounts (cash, ISA, SIPP, GIA, crypto, property), each with its own start and end dates, growth assumption and tax treatment. State Pension is worked out automatically from date of birth and NI qualifying years. A configurable withdrawal strategy decides which asset is drawn down first and which minimum balances to preserve. Spending can be fixed, inflation-linked, age-banded or fully custom, with an itemised living-costs reality check against the plan figure. One-off events, lump-sum contributions and withdrawals, inheritances, large purchases, can be optionally inflation-linked from today's value, and liabilities such as mortgages and loans amortise automatically and offset net worth. Multiple switchable profiles each carry fully independent data.
TAX
Fully configurable tax profiles (rest-of-UK, Scotland, Wales or custom) cover the Personal Allowance and its taper, savings and dividend allowances, and every rate band, with nothing hard-coded, so a new tax year is just an edited profile. A full year-by-year audit trail shows gross, taxable and tax-free income, tax due, and which asset funded each pound of spending.
SCENARIOS AND RISK
Multiple scenarios sharing the same underlying data can be compared side by side on depletion age, total tax and asset values at key ages. Monte Carlo simulation, randomised volatility or a replay of a historical return sequence from every possible starting year, reports a success probability and a 10th/median/90th-percentile net worth fan chart, alongside dashboard sensitivity sliders for quick what-if checks.
HOUSEHOLD AND ESTATE
A household view combines two profiles into a joint picture, with optional first-death and survivor modelling. An estate and Inheritance Tax estimate covers the nil-rate band, residence nil-rate band with taper, spousal transfer and charitable-giving discount, against your projected net worth. An opportunities screen mechanically flags tax and planning points worth a closer look: Personal Allowance taper, ISA-to-pension relief gap, MPAA and recycling-rule risk, pension access age, NI shortfalls, IHT exposure, annual-allowance headroom and offshore bonds.
DATA AND REPORTING
CSV import with preview for assets, income, liabilities and one-off events; export to CSV, Excel and a printable PDF report; database backup and restore, undo/redo, and autosave; and every screen carries a plain-language "About this screen" panel explaining how to read the numbers.
Future Position is a planning and education tool. It is not financial, tax, legal, or regulated advice, and every figure is a projection built from the assumptions and data you enter, not a guarantee. Calculations are believed to be correct, but errors are possible, so verify anything material against official sources or a qualified adviser before acting.
